WHAT IS ‘LA CAMBRA’?
The “Cambra de Comerç i Indústria de Terrassa” (Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Terrassa) was established on the 29th of June 1886. It was the first Chamber established in Catalonia and the third in Spain.

Its current demarcation area includes the following municipalities: Castellbisbal, Gallifa, Matadepera, Olesa de Montserrat, Rellinars, Rubí, Sant Cugat del Vallès, Sant Llorenç Savall, Terrassa, Ullastrell, Vacarisses and Viladecavalls.

It is a service entity whose main objective is to offer information, advice and training in order to improve the business management, further the export trade and training programmes, promote the interests of the companies and commit itself to the economic development of its demarcation area. At the same time, it represents and promotes the general interests of trade and industry, acting as an advisory body for the Administration.

Quality and environment
Since 1999 this task is being endorsed by the certification of the Quality Management System according to the ISO 9001 Standard and since 2005 by the Environmental Management System according to the ISO 14001 Standard.
Offices
In view of the above and as part of its commitment to provide companies the best service in the way of support and in the defence of their interests, the Chamber maintains an office in Rubí since 1999 and an office in Sant Cugat del Vallès since 2003. Given the towns' history and profile as key locations within the corporate environment of the demarcation area, a closer proximity to the companies was deemed necessary in order to create a more direct and agile relationship. The objective of these delegations is to develop a series of joint actions and to establish agreements aimed at driving initiatives for the economic development of their own town as well as that of the Chamber. On the one hand, the chamber’s corporate network is used to support promotional activities, corporate meetings, the identification of corporate concerns and problem areas, and on the other hand it provides the lines of services developed by the Chamber, which offer the possibility of increasing the service potential directed towards the companies in the area.
Who are the Chamber's clients?
All the industrial, commercial and service companies within Terrassa's demarcation area, as well as the group of people planning to establish new companies.

All the individuals or entities within the demarcation area who have been granted the license to conduct activities in the commercial, industrial and service sector, are electoral members of the Chamber. Terrassa’s demarcation area includes a total of 30.250 companies.

Governing bodies
The Plenum is the Chamber’s highest governing body and is formed by 36 members who represent the different sectors of economical activity of Terrassa's demarcation area, distributed in accordance with the economical weight of each of those sectors. The Plenum is the highest governing and representation body and, as such, is the main decision maker in regard to the Chamber's activities and establishes the principal corporate lines of action.

The Chamber's Executive Committee acts as a permanent governing body, managing and administering the Chamber and submitting motions to it, as well as being responsible for the entity's institutional direction. It is formed by the President, three Vice Presidents, the Treasurer and seven Alternate Members, all of them selected amongst the members of the Plenum.

The organisation of the Chamber allows for the formation of advisory Commissions composed of companies and persons connected to the economic and corporate world, whose objective is to promote studies and projects for the defence of the interests of business owners, make contributions to promote and facilitate the strategic development of the demarcation area and to help the Chamber in taking a stand on questions relating to the corporate representation and everyday activities. At this point in time there are Commissions for International Trade, Industry and Technological Innovation, Environment and Quality, and Trade, Services and Tourism.

Currently, the Generalitat de Catalunya (the autonomous government of Catalonia), through the Department of Commerce, Consumer Affairs and Tourism, is the administrative body with authority over the Chambers of Commerce and, as such, acts in a supervisory and controlling capacity, given that its resources have a public origin.

Higher Chamber bodies
The Chamber of Terrassa is integrated within the following chamber bodies:
  • The Tricameral: composed of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Terrassa, Sabadell and Manresa.
  • General Council of the Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Navigation of Catalonia: represents the 13 Catalan Chambers before the Generalitat de Catalunya.
  • General Council of the Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Navigation of Spain: represents the 85 Chambers before the State Administration.
  • Eurochambers: consolidates more than 1,300 Chambers of 34 countries representing more than 14 million companies.
  • International Chamber of Commerce (ICC): network of more than 10,000 institutions defending and promoting the general interests of companies throughout the world.
